TUOMOTUS, French Polynesia

The traditional Polynesian ground oven, cooking wild pig caught for our mate Tony's birthday at Apataki, Tuomotu.

Sharks are sacred and protected here and are in abundance, they are everywhere! The blacktips are cheeky and come in close for a look.

Work Time


We Spent a tiring 14 days repairing, painting, servicing, putting a new through hull fitting in for the water maker, lowering the mast for the new furler bearing (which happenned to be the wrong part even after many assurances from the bearing dealer in Sydney that it was the right one), Replaced the boom gooseneck and and everything that you can think of. The mozzies were relentless and the weather was hot and humid and we were dreaming at night of being back in the water. The day finally arrived and we prepared Brahminy as best as possible. It was a nerve wracking couple of hours as we slowly were towed towards the water by the expert Lau family. When we got into the water we had some issues with the engines which were finally sorted out and we anchored out in the lovely clear water off the Apataki Carenage at last. Here we waited for the correct part to be sent from France to Papeete and then hopefully to Apataki...

HERMIT CRABS EVERYWHERE! These atols are packed with these beautiful hermit crabs who feast on the coconut flesh brought on with the copra industry.
